If you're considering staying at The Miami Beach EDITION with a toddler, you might be wondering whether a luxury Miami Beach hotel can actually work for a family with a young child. After staying here with our 21-month-old, I can confidently say that luxury travel and toddler travel don't have to be mutually exclusive.

The Miami Beach EDITION had been on my dream-hotel list for a long time. One scroll through their Instagram and it's easy to see why. Their signature aesthetic is dreamy yet serene — the kind of interiors that stop you mid-scroll. As someone who is passionate about interior design, thoughtful hotel décor is something I genuinely look for when choosing where to stay, and the EDITION delivers in every way.

We tend to use my birthday as an excuse to escape the tail end of a New England winter and soak up some much-needed sunshine. In 2024, we wanted something easy: a direct flight from Boston, warm weather and no overseas travel. Florida was the natural choice, and Miami Beach checked every box.

Staying at The Miami Beach EDITION With a Toddler

Luxury travel with a toddler in tow requires a little more planning.

Beautiful interiors and a 21-month-old don't always coexist effortlessly, and booking a luxury hotel with young children can sometimes feel like a gamble. You don't necessarily know how large the room will feel once a crib is inside, whether the hotel will have baby gear available or whether you'll feel completely out of place walking through the lobby with a stroller.

At 21 months, Maximus was at an age where travel finally felt a little more manageable. Our essential toddler travel list was fairly simple: a crib, stroller and car seat. Anything beyond that, we knew we could usually figure out once we arrived.

The EDITION is, at its core, a sophisticated luxury hotel, but we found it genuinely accommodating for families. We weren't the only guests traveling with babies and young children either, which immediately made the experience feel relaxed rather than as though we were bringing a toddler somewhere he didn't belong.

The hotel is also directly on the beach and currently offers two outdoor pools, on-site dining and children's recreation among its amenities.

For families with older children, one of the most unusual things about the property is BASEMENT, which includes a four-lane bowling alley and a 2,000-square-foot indoor ice-skating rink.

Why the Location Works Well for Families

The Miami Beach EDITION is located at 2901 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach's Mid-Beach neighborhood. Mid-Beach sits between the energy of South Beach and the quieter atmosphere farther north, which makes it a nice location if you want access to Miami without necessarily being in the center of South Beach's nightlife.

One of the biggest advantages when traveling with a toddler is the hotel's direct beach access. Being able to go from your room to the beach without organizing a full excursion makes spontaneous mornings and afternoons much easier with a little one.

The hotel provides beach access along with chaises, umbrellas and towel service for guests.

Toddler Travel Tips for a Luxury Hotel Stay

1. Consider Renting a Car Seat at Your Destination

We brought our own car seat and, in retrospect, it wasn't necessary.

Traveling through the airport with a car seat is completely manageable, but it is one more large piece of gear to carry. If you're renting a car, check whether the rental company offers an appropriate car seat and confirm the model or availability ahead of time.

For future trips, I'd compare the convenience of renting one with the peace of mind of traveling with our own.

2. Contact the Hotel in Advance About a Crib

Always call or email the hotel before your trip to confirm that a crib will be available.

I'd also specifically ask whether bedding is included so you know whether you need to pack a crib sheet.

The EDITION had a beautiful crib ready and waiting in our room when we arrived, which was one less thing to think about after traveling.

Full disclosure: Maximus ended up in bed with us every night anyway.

3. Pack a Small Bottle of Dish Soap

This is one of those tiny things that you don't think about until you need it.

Pack a travel-size bottle of dish soap for washing bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, utensils and other toddler essentials in the hotel sink.

It takes up almost no room in your suitcase and makes hotel life so much easier.

4. Invest in a Great Travel Stroller

A compact, easy-fold travel stroller is one of the best purchases we've made for traveling with a toddler.

We are obsessed with the Bugaboo Butterfly. It folds down in seconds, is genuinely compact and is stylish enough that I don't mind bringing it everywhere.

A good travel stroller is especially helpful somewhere like Miami Beach, where you may be walking between the hotel, restaurants, the beach and nearby shops throughout the day.

5. Don't Overpack for Your Toddler

I have learned that you need far less than you think.

For this stage of toddlerhood, our priorities were somewhere safe to sleep, a stroller for getting around and a plan for transportation.

Most forgotten items can be purchased once you arrive, particularly when you're traveling somewhere like Miami where pharmacies, grocery stores and baby essentials are readily available.

Leaving some of the "just in case" items at home also makes navigating the airport considerably easier.

Is The Miami Beach EDITION Kid-Friendly?

If you're looking for a traditional children's resort with characters, splash pads and scheduled kids' activities around every corner, The Miami Beach EDITION probably isn't what you're looking for.

But if you're a parent who still wants a beautiful luxury hotel in Miami Beach and would rather not sacrifice great design, restaurants and atmosphere simply because you're traveling with a toddler, it can be a wonderful balance.

That was ultimately what I loved most about our stay.

It still felt like our vacation.

We weren't staying somewhere designed entirely around children, but we also didn't feel uncomfortable having Maximus with us. We could enjoy the design, beach, pools and restaurants while still having everything we realistically needed for a 21-month-old.

Would I Stay at The Miami Beach EDITION With a Toddler Again?

Absolutely.

Traveling with a toddler will never look exactly like traveling as a couple, and I think accepting that is part of what makes family travel more enjoyable. There may be earlier dinners, stroller naps, extra luggage and evenings spent in your hotel room instead of going out — but that doesn't mean you have to give up the beautiful hotels and destinations you loved before having children.

For us, The Miami Beach EDITION was a great luxury hotel for traveling to Miami with a toddler because it allowed us to have both: a beautiful, elevated hotel experience and a comfortable family vacation.

If you're planning a Miami family vacation and wondering whether The Miami Beach EDITION works with a baby or toddler, I would happily put it on your list.

My biggest advice is simply to contact the hotel before your trip, arrange your crib and transportation in advance, bring a good travel stroller and then keep everything else as simple as possible.

Because sometimes the best family trips aren't the ones where everything revolves around the kids — they're the ones where everyone gets a little bit of what they love.
