2023, The Year Of THE PROCESS

proc·ess /ˈpräˌses/ a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.

I’m appointing 2023 the year of “the process”. The beginning of every year it’s impossible not to take a moment and reflect on the previous year and naturally, think ahead to the year upon us. After reflecting, I find myself too often focusing on the end goals and what I desire, but haven’t put enough time into the process to achieve those goals. I often have so many ideas floating around its hard to organize and convert those ideas into creative output and the process gets delayed because I get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Can you relate? When I should not worry about the small things and simply just do it to work the process and maybe the outcome will be good; maybe it will be junk - but the point is to go through the process and complete the ideas at hand. My biggest creative outlet is photography which I adore so much in the moment when an idea or the light right hits. It’s kind of like going to the gym, it’s hard to get there but once you’re there and in the moment you wonder why you don't do it all of the time. Instead of always thinking of the end goal I need to step back and focus on the small steps each day, the routine and the simple process of the the life that I want to create. This of course needs to be accompanied with consistency and action. Steven Bartlett said “Success: 5% brains, 95% consistency", and I absolutely agree.

Reflecting, this last year has been an immense year of growth and change in all aspects of my life. We welcomed our baby boy into the world, we moved, we became first time parents, and I said good-bye to my sales position of 7 years in the architectural community. I’m learning to embrace each season and its meaning at the time it comes. Aside from learning every day as a new mother and growing my boy as best as I can, this year will be another year of intense growth and working the process and consistency to build myself and career up again. It’s funny how our identities are connected so much to our careers. It says so much about a person, yet sometimes it says nothing at all. Here are the pillars i’m focusing on in 2023.

*This picture has no connection to the new year intentions, it was simply a pretty moment and a part of my process.
