POSTPARTUM ESSENTIALS for New Moms

Dang, Postpartum. I feel like I was prepared for a lot of aspects of pregnancy and birth but not nearly as prepared for the postpartum part of it. I am 7 months post-partum as I write this and along the way there are certainly different challenges. Here are my tried and true items that I found to be essential in the early stages of post-partum. I hope some new moms will find this helpful!

Belly Firming Cream: I’ve been using and seeing results with MAËLYS Cosmetics B-FLAT Belly Firming Cream.

Large Tumbler: Hydration is so important! Especially if you are breastfeeding. The Stanley Quencher is great, I also love my Hydrapeak Roadster 40oz Tumbler. Something that is easy to grab with baby in tow.

Shapewear: A few weeks to a month/s is really only when shapewear comes in handy to hold everything together and tight. A great tool to help with your confidence and feel good. When I was going out of the house or had an event I loved the HoneyLove sculptwear.

Belly Wrap: I use this belly wrap from Belly Bandit. I love it because you can adjust the tightness but keeps you tight throughout the day. This I found so helpful directly after birth to help my core feel more secure. They actually gave me a lightweight one in the hospital, but I ended up getthing this belly wrap because it had a bit more support.

Lose & Loungey: The first weeks post-partum you really are on a cloud. Whether you are in the first few weeks or months, you are at home lounging with baby a lot and I found loose, comfortable clothes were essential. I am obsessed with the quality of Eberjey pijamas. This would also be a great gift idea for new mommas.

Vitamins: My doctor had recommend to continue taking post-natal vitamins while I was still breastfeeding. I took Momma Bird Prenatal vitamins throughout my pregnancy, so it was an easy transition to their Postnatal option. In my morning supplement line up I also supplement with Vitamin C (immune system), D3 (bone strength + immune system), Vegetarian DHA (vegetarian format of omegas), Vitamin E (antioxidant + skin). Obviously I am not a dr. these are the vitamins that work for me, do your research :)

Hair Help: Now you may be one of the lucky ones that doesn’t go through this, but at the 4 month mark I started losing hair like it was my full time job. Thankfully I did have a lot of hair to start with but the rate that I was losing it at was very concerning (to me). There are a few products on the market, it was important to me to use a product that was safe while breastfeeding. So I went with Vegamour Hair Repair they are a bit pricey but now at 7 months post-partum my hair is almost fully resorted. Nutrafol is another popular one on the market that is breastfeeding friendly.

Underwear: These Frida Mom Disposable were absolutely essential in the hospital and the early weeks post-partum. The ones the hospital provides are loose and much like a net material. These Frida ones are super stretchy at the same time they hold you in for just the right amount of support. Comfy - full underwear is also a must. These Seamless Briefs were my fav from Target

Hello Frida: This Frida Peri-Bottle was absolutely the most key post-partum item. I’ve heard that sometimes hospitals will provide one, but our hospital didn’t and I’m so glad I had this on hand. If there is one thing you absolutely need, it is this gadget!

Pads: I underestimated how many pads were needed post-partum. Rule of thumb here, always get more than what you think you’ll need. You go through a lot. I would suggest to get a few different kinds (thinner and more padded) for day and night. It’s also very important to get unscented, everything down there is very sensitive, i personally found the scented ones to be very irritating. My favorite brands were Rael and HoneyPot.
